Last night, Elizabeth Hurley, radiantly dressed, illuminated Shepherd Market to the delight of the Mayfair crowd. More than 500 people, mainly local residents and patrons of the local establishments in Shepherd Market, attended the festive event, which is sponsored by Pastor Real Estate and organised by the Shepherd Market Association of Retailers, Residents and Traders. Elizabeth Hurley stylishly swept into Shepherd Market to switch on the lights at 7pm.
All around the Shepherd Market in Mayfair, there was entertainment for the local crowd until 10pm, including live acts performing in the piazza and on the streets around the Market. The vintage-inspired singing trio, The Spinettes, and the globe-trotting leading electric violinist, Sarah Mallock, were particular hits with the crowd. There was also an indie pop singer, Matt Mure, carol singers from Christ Church Mayfair and a brilliant magician from Red Hat Magic.
However, the most popular surprise act was from Elizabeth, who sliced off the cork of a champagne bottle with a sabre. David Lee, Head of Sales at Pastor Real Estate also had a go at this ceremonial act of Sabrage, and also presented Elizabeth Hurley with a beautiful Christmas wreath to show Shepherd Market’s appreciation of her support of the event.
The local businesses provided stalls and special menus for the night, including a ‘Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Bar’, organised by 5 Hertford Street, and a ‘fruits de mer’ stall from Le Boudin Blanc. There was also a Christmas jumper competition, for which participants were photographed in the Pop-up Santa Grotto’s picture booth in Snappy snaps, wearing their jumpers. The best dressed won a limited edition bottle of Roger Daltrey champagne, generously donated by Eminent Wines.
The Shepherd Market party-goers were able to indulge in an array of food and drink, including complimentary mulled wine from Little Square restaurant and Ye Grapes pub.
A treasure hunt also took place around Shepherd Market, for which amazing prizes where donated by local businesses in the Market. These included jewelers, ‘Guy & Max’ and ‘J & C Martin’, private member’s club, ‘5 Hertford Street’, florist ‘Ellie Hartley’, hairdresser ‘Kay Cavanagh’, restaurants ‘Le Boudin Blanc’ and ‘Hatchetts’, art galleries ‘Bankrobber’ and ‘Imitate Modern’ and menswear brand, ‘Simon Carter’, and many more. Stacey Kievel, local resident, was the first one with all the right answers and won the grand prize.
The Shepherd Market Association and Pastor Real Estate chose to support the homelessness and housing association charity, St Mungos, for the evening. Elizabeth Hurley is extremely active when it comes to charity work herself; in particular, she is focused on health, children and the military, and so she encouraged support of St Mungo’s in her speech last night. As a businesswoman, actress, model and philanthropist, currently starring as the Queen of England, it was extremely kind of Elizabeth to give her time to Shepherd Market Christmas Lights.
David Lee, Head of Sales at Pastor Real Estate, added, “We were delighted to be sponsoring the 2016 Shepherd Market Christmas Party. Pastor Real Estate is a local business with local interests, so we understand the importance of these events to the area. We are committed to playing a major role in the Mayfair community, which is also demonstrated through our continuous sponsorship of The Mayfair Awards. The event was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all associated with Shepherd Market and those that want to visit. This event will continue to attract a number of visitors, which can only benefit the people and businesses of Shepherd Market.”
